This page is a very crude and simple centralized location for general discussion about this wiki. If you have general suggestions, comments, or questions about the wiki, this is the place to raise them.
Some of this discussion may occur on the mailing list, but in the interest of even greater transparency and openness, it may be better to discuss, or at least keep track of what was discussed, here. The disadvantage to this is that you aren't emailed when someone comments here, unless you set "E-mail me when a page I'm watching is changed" in your preferences.
[edit] Spam problem
On the mailing list, several options were brought forth to deal with the spam problem. They are:
- Implement a CAPTCHA for non-logged in editors.
- Semi-protect (non-logged in or very new editors cannot edit) highly targeted articles.
- Implement a link blacklist and update the list periodically.
All who have commented so far (only three people, to my knowledge) have been in support of the CAPTCHA.
So, at last Wednesday's meeting, Pete and I were going to try to install the CAPTCHA. Unfortunately, we ran out of time. Installing the CAPTCHA may be delayed until either next month's WikiWednesday.
In the meantime, Pete has semi-protected some spam-target pages. -kotra 18:55, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
